Save on scratch repairs

Scratch Damage

Most people see a scratch on their car and think, that’s going to cost a fortune to get fixed, not so for there are a few repair techniques that we use that can save you money on repair costs.

Not all car scratches need to be sprayed, this is the more costly option for repair and it’s well worth exploring the other methods which might suit you better depending on your budget and expectations.

Reduce and touch in

This technique is the cheaper option and results can be quite surprising depending on the severity of the scratch. It involves using different liquids and compounds to reduce the scratch in layers and then touching in the remainder with the cars equivalent  paint. This is a technique used predominantly within the trade sector on new and used cars going on the forecourt for sale. The lighter the scratch the more of it Thant can be removed and the better it will look. The general rule of thumb is that if you can click your finger nail in the scratch then the likelihood of it being removed 100% is slim.

Localized respray
This is where you would remove the scratch by filling it in with a primer filler then caring out a local area spray job. The advantage of this technique is that the scratch is completely removed and where you are only spraying a small area you are reducing the amount of paint you would need therefore the costs come down as a result. The main use areas would be on the bumper and specific sections in wing and door panels.

Full respray
You would only use this method if the scratch in question stretched over the entire panel. This would also remove the scratch 100% but where you are using more paint the costs go up as a result.

Dean did a de-rusting job on my beloved 14 year-old Peugeot 406 a few weeks ago. Excellent job, done with real care and attention and far more perfection on the tricky paint-matching job on the bonnet than I was looking for. All this, and a bubbly, warm character too. Heartily recommended. Paul Tilson
